Colin's speech has improved dramatically, especially over the last week or so. His latest and most powerful word is "yes," which although he's been able to nod to assent in the past, it's so much better that he says it out loud! He's added a variety of other words in the last month, although I think he's actually been saying these words all along, but we've not been able to understand them. The other night, I went through the alphabet books we have, and found that Colin was able to say almost every letter with prompting, and a few without. In the R book, he busted out with the clearest "river" you can imagine. I had no idea he'd even known that word at all! This boy is full of surprises. I guess he's trying to keep up with Anna, who has begun reading in earnest! The two of them are becoming very chatty lately.
Colin does remain an enigma in the eating department. He has quite the palate overall for a 17 month old but you can just never figure out on what he's going to fixate. For instance, you'll notice one picture of him wailing like the world is ending. This is because I told him he could have no more beet salad and had to eat his soup and grilled cheese. Yes, my son refused grilled cheese and opted for more beets. You just never know with this boy!
Colin continues to be adventurous on the playground, always trying to keep up with his sister. His latest obsession is jumping. He tries his best to attempt a jump from a standing position, but it doesn't really work. So anytime he can find a raised surface (step, curb, bench) to jump off, he is more than ready. You have to watch him very closely because he does not have as much fear as he should about falling. Here's a cute video of a dance session he recently had with his sister:
Colin's canines are starting to come in so we've had a few grumpy days, but other than that it's been a healthy month for both kids. We got to do lots of Stanford events this month as you'll see in the pictures, and there are many more to come in the next few weeks. It's hard to imagine the next time I'll write a blogpost it will be the beginning of another summer vacation. Time flies when you're having fun!
