Colin has really improved in his communication in the last few weeks. He says dozens of words now. The most notable is "please," which is just so darn cute the he pronounces it with no "L" sound! He also says "cup," "book," "no," "Elmo," "apple," "bye-bye" regularly. He says a lot of incomplete words that we understand, like "guh-guh" for yogurt and "ee-os" for Cheerios. He can make a "ruff" sound when he sees dogs and a "cack" (rather than quack) for a duck. He occasionally busts out with something really impressive, like tonight when he wiggled into the fridge while I was getting something, picked up a carton of blueberries, and said "buh-buh-ees!" The other morning he said three of his favorite phrases all in succession: "All done, dada, bye-bye." Brian and I almost fell over! In addition to spoken communication, it's clear Colin is understanding more and more of what we say. If he sees a picture of a foot in a book, he'll point to his own. When asked to point out objects in picture books, he can find a dog, cat, bear, cup, train, boy, elephant and more. He's getting really good at playing fetch for us - he'll pick up all sorts of objects if you ask him! It's tough to get him to chat on camera but I at least got a few words out of him here:
Physically Colin has become a real daredevil. He's definitely mastered walking quickly. Now he attempts to run, and... .falls flat on his face. It doesn't seem to faze him much! He has become highly adept at going down the stairs on his belly - he's just as fast as Anna walking down them! Colin is wild on the playground! He climbs up slides that Anna was afraid of when she was two years old and barrels down them like they are nothing. He seems to have no concept that he is unable to keep up with the three-year olds! Here's a sweet video of Colin and Anna on a little see-saw toy, singing together:
On the food front Colin is finally getting over some of his pickiness. Slowly but surely as we re-offer foods, he finally starts to realize that there are other tasty foods besides graham crackers and meatballs! He continues to favor fruit (apples and blueberries) and spicy meat (sausage, pepperoni, meatloaf), but he also loves yogurt, beans, chili, peas, and cinnamon toast. Soup has also been a favorite. We're making some headway on green vegetables, too... this week he ate both chard and brussels sprouts for the first time!
Anna and Colin are starting to really play meaningfully together and it is so heartwarming to watch. Anna is an incredible big sister who is very generous about sharing her food and toys with Colin. She really helped Colin out on school picture day. From what we hear, Colin was not happy to be photographed but when they sent Anna to the room he calmed down! Colin adores his big sister and wants to do everything she does!
Anna is doing wonderfully at school. Lately we've been doing the preschool birthday party circuit... five parties over two weekends!
